SCC Staff English Training Program Orientation Hosted by SoLA

On the afternoon of March 31, 2021, the School of Liberal Arts (SoLA), launched a Business English Communication Skills Improvement Training Course (hereinafter referred to as the course). SoLA held the first meeting in classroom GN302, kicking off the course for the semester.

Assistant President, Chen Jian; Deputy Dean, Zhang Keran; Head of the Liberal Arts College, Director Qu Yasen; Head of the International Exchange Center; Course Lecturers; and the majority of course participants were present. The meeting was hosted by coordinator for SCC International Project, Ma Lin.

The meeting was opened by Assistant Principal Chen Jian, who delivered the initial speech of the day. During his heart felt and focus driven speech, he not only affirmed the dedication of the teachers of the course team, but also combined the use of the Chinese and English languages, putting forward the "three hearts" and "3ce" expectations of the teachers involved in the course. These being, “Confidence, Patience and Perseverance”. In so doing he sated the following, “I sincerely hope that the teachers of the College can build the confidence to use English as a working language freely through the training course through the spirit of patience and perseverance.”

Director Qu Yasen of the International Communication Center then  delivered a concise English speech, expressing his admiration and appreciation for the spirit of “It is never too old to learn” possessed by the trainees and teachers of the course. His exceptional command of the English language made participants jokingly remark that he should be  nominated as the class monitor/representative, creating a relaxed and active atmosphere.

He was followed by Deputy Dean, Zhang Keran, the head of the Liberal Arts College, who delivered a motivational speech. In doing so,  she introduced the personal characteristics of the instructors of the course to the trainees, and expressly stated the sincere honor and confidence the Liberal Arts College has in leading and facilitating this project.

Anastacia(Stacey), the primary facilitator of the Liberal Arts College Business Training Course, then addressed the trainees and others present at the meeting. She was assisted in doing so by Xu Zhen, the Chinese course assistant for the course. They introduced the course in detail, interacting with the course participants through lively and interesting classroom activities. This allowed the course trainers to both, deliver a detailed understanding of the course, and gain a better understanding of course participant needs.

The meeting was painted with a relaxed and engaged atmosphere, a direct result of the course participants and trainers actively communicating throughout the duration of the meeting, through use of the English language as the default medium.

Post the official conclusion of the meeting, course trainers and participants lingered in order to engage with each other further, indicating the eagerness of the course participants to learn and develop their current English language skills further, and the course trainers willingness and dedication towards assisting the course participants in doing so. 

Although the meeting was an hour in duration, it perfectly presented the professionalism and dedication of the course trainers facilitating the course, as well as the seriousness and eagerness of the course participants.

It is believed that amidst such a relaxed and lively English learning atmosphere, this training course will definitely contribute to the effective internationalization of the school as a whole.
